Welcome to the July 2007 edition of the South by Southwest (SXSW) 
Interactive Festival monthly listserve. The deadline for submitting 
panel ideas for next spring's event is Friday, July 20. Read below for 
complete details on the submission process. Also, finalists for 
SXSWclick have been announced and now the online public is invited to 
vote in the Popularity Contest. Additionally, this listserve contains an 
easy-to-answer SXSW trivia question. Answer it correctly and you can win 
a FREE FREE FREE registration to next year's event (March 7-11, 2008)!

1. 2008 SXSW Interactive Panel Proposal Deadline is July 20

Year after year, many of the most compelling panel presentations at the 
SXSW Interactive Festival come from ideas submitted by the online 
community. If you have an idea for programming for next year's event, 
then we want to hear from you! Hurry, final submission deadline for 
these proposals is Friday, July 20. If your idea is accepted for 2008, 
then you receive a comp registration to the event (as well as a a chance 
to talk in front of some of the industry's most creative thinkers). Read

2. Popularity Contest: Vote for Your Favorite SXSWclick Finalist

SXSWclick is a year-round initiative created to showcase short-form 
storytelling via mobile devices and the web. Finalists for this year's 
competition have now been posted online at http://sxswclick.com/news/. 
The Popularity Contest encourages you to vote for your favorite of these 
finalists -- the polls are open through midnight on Friday, July 27. For 
2008, SXSWclick is sponsored by Cellfish.

3. Nominations Now Accepted for 2008 Dewey Winburne Award

The Dewey Winburne Community Service Award honors people who are using 
new media and emerging technology to help society's less fortunate. 
Nominations are now open for 2008. The ten finalists for this award will 
be honored at SXSW Interactive next spring. All finalists will also 
speak on panels related to community technology at next year's event.

4. 2008 SXSW Web Awards: New Categories Added to the Mix

The SXSW Web Awards honor the most innovative and trend-setting projects 
on the web. As the online world continues to evolve, so do the 
competition categories: "Activism," "Games," and "Mobile" will join the 
mix in 2008. Get your code polished and ready, as we will begin 
accepting entries for next year's Web Awards on Friday, August 3.

6. Build Buzz with Uber-Geek Tastemakers: Market Your Brand at SXSW

Last March, a well-conceived marketing campaign helped Twitter hit the 
tipping point at SXSW. If you want to achieve the same kind of results

2008 SXSW Marketing Brochure mails in early August. Drop an email with

8. ScreenBurn: Special Video Game Seminar on August 1 in Austin

games, ScreenBurn is the newest element of the SXSW Interactive

learn how to make them, come to the Austin Community College Video Games
