1. SXSW Interactive Website Relaunches with New Look and Feel
Check out the new look and feel of the SXSW Interactive Festival website
at http://www.sxsw.com/interactive/ . We have listened to your feedback
and tried to increase the amount of basic information about SXSW
available online (see http://sxsw.com/ for the big picture). We have
also taken measures to improve the navigation of the site with a more
traditional menu structure on the left hand side of each page. The
relaunch of the SXSW website signals the beginning of the new season.
What are those dates again? For 2008, the SXSW Interactive Festival
begins Friday, March 7 and runs through Tuesday evening, March 11.
--------------------
2. Register Today for Next Spring: Cheap Rates and Lots of Hotel Options
If you are planning to attend SXSW Interactive next spring, why not go
ahead and register right now. Paying today ensures you will get the
lowest registration rate -- just $325 for five days of learning,
inspiration, networking and fun! If you register early, you can also
chose from a full range of downtown hotel options -- hotels that will
begin to sell out in the next few weeks. Get the scoop at
http://2008.sxsw.com/register_to_attend/ . Also, for general or specific
questions on any issues related to SXSW Interactive, contact us at
inter at sxsw.com.
--------------------
3. Showcase Your Creativity: Entries Now Accepted for 2008 Web Awards
The SXSW Web Awards honor the most innovative new projects and
destinations on the Internet. If you have helped to create one of these
hot spots, then you should definitely be a part of the 2008 SXSW Web
Awards. Entries are now being accepted at
http://2008.sxsw.com/interactive/web_awards/enter/ -- this URL also
contains all the rules about this exciting competition (including info
on the three new categories "Activism," "Gaming" and "Mobile"). To look
at the sites that took home the hardware in 2007, see
http://2007.sxsw.com/interactive/web_awards/ .
--------------------
4. Anticipation: SXSW Panel Picker to Launch in Approximately 10 Days
The SXSW Panel Picker allows the online community to give their feedback
on all the great programming ideas we have received for 2008. We had
hoped to launch this web application on August 3, but processing the
volume of amazing submissions we have received has delayed us by a few
days. If you subscribe to this listserve, then don't worry -- you will
get a ping later this month as soon as the Panel Picker launches.
--------------------
5. ScreenBurn 2008: Check out the Daily Gaming-Related Content
Focusing on the most innovative developments in the world of video
games, ScreenBurn is the newest element of the SXSW Interactive
Festival. If you love this medium, then check out the daily game-related
content at http://screenburnfest.com/2007/ . Also, if your gaming
company wants to reach thousands of consumers as well as SXSW
registrants, then you should exhibit in the two-day ScreenBurn Arcade on
Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9. Touch base with Lindsay Muse
(lindsay at sxsw.com) for all the details.
--------------------
6. Small Screen Heros: Winners of 2007 SXSWclick Announced
SXSWclick is the year-round initiative designed to showcase short-form
video on the web and mobile devices. Winners for this year's competition
have now been announced -- congrats to Dan Brown, whose film "Pierre"

for complete list of winners. Also, special thanks to Cellfish (the
overall sponsor of the SXSWclick 2007) and to iThentic (which supplied a
MacPro Workstation, and Apple Cinema display and a copy of Final Cut
Studio for the winner of the Grand Jury Prize).
--------------------
7. Community Technology: Nominations Open For Dewey Winburne Award
The Dewey Winburne Community Service Award honors those who are using
new media and emerging technology to help level the playing field
between the haves and the have-nots. Nominations are now open for the
2008 prize. The ten finalists for this award will be honored at SXSW
Interactive next spring. All finalists will also speak on panels related
to community technology at next year's event. Read complete details
